Our Mission
To mitigate risk through education, outreach and policy awareness campaigns. This is accomplished in partnership with the Information Security Advisory Committee, Information Security Liaisons, Net Managers, campus working groups, key departments and the UA community at large.
Our Charter
- develop policies, procedures and guidelines with consideration of relevant legislation
- provide guidance and direction to the university to assure compliance with security standards and appropriate policies
- monitor and inform the university about information security trends and their potential impacts;
- define appropriate compliance and enforcement procedures as needed
- provide security education and training for faculty, staff and students

The ISO Team
Cathy Bates
University Information Security Officer, cbates@email.arizona.edu
Cathy has served the UA community for four years, most recently as the Senior Director of Enterprise Applications for UITS, before accepting the position of Information Security Officer. Cathy brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and passion for information security, with 20 years of experience in leading technology units in higher education. She has been recognized for her ability to create service operations that support and enhance institutional strategic initiatives. Before coming to the UA, she served as the Director of Information Technology and Chief Security Officer for Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire. Cathy looks forward to working with the campus community to continue advances in our security posture.
Kelley Bogart, CISSP

If you have attended a security awareness session on campus in the past decade, you have probably met Kelley Bogart. Kelley has worked for the UA for 19 years primarily as an analyst, and in Information Security since 2000. Her primary focus has been on the "people" and administrative aspects of security. She has been responsible for developing the UA's Security Awareness and Training Program, which was initiated in 2003 and has received international recognition. Kelley earned her CISSP (Certified Information Security System Professional) in August 2007, which is the globally recognized industry standard for achievement and excellence in Information Security.
Gil Salazar

Gil started at the UA in 1981 in the College of Agriculture. He has a degree in Information Systems here at the UA and has been working with computers since 1985. Gil has been involved in many IT initiatives and committees that help shape the UA’s IT strategic plans. He is a former chair of Net Managers and has always looked out for the UA’s best interest in all IT endeavors. Gil has worked with the ISO security awareness programs for several years and has been involved in the information security field for the past 10 years. When not handling computer issues, Gil loves to watch and play sports, hike the local mountains and take pictures. He is an avid UA football and basketball fan…. Go Cats!
Teresa Banks
Manager, Information Security and Compliance Programs, tbanks@email.arizona.edu
Teresa has worked for the UA since 2002, and has been with the Information Security Office since 2008. Her excellent organizational and communication skills, writing ability, creativity and desire to serve combine to provide coordination of all activities and functions for the ISO so that goals and objectives can be accomplished. Teresa is the coordinator and contact for the campus Information Security Liaisons (ISL) and Information Security Managers (ISM). Before joining the ISO team, she served on campus at The Astrophysical Journal and then the Office of Federal Relations. As well, she is a UA alumna.
