Step 7 - Find the Log File

Locate the log file on your desktop.

The log displays a list of files that may contain sensitive data. The first item on each line is the path, or the location, of the file. Following the path are the criteria Spider used to determine whether the data were Social Security, payment card or driver’s license numbers. There may be more than one criterion listed.

Each time you run the Spider program the existing log file is overwritten by the new log file.

For Windows:

The log loads automatically in a Log Viewer when Spider has finished scanning.  If you will be reviewing the log immediately, continue to the next step.  If you quit the Log Viewer before you finish reviewing the log, you will have to reload the log in the Log Viewer:

  • Click Windows Start > Programs (All Programs for Vista)> Spider3 >spider_3.0.exe. The Spider window will open.
  • Click File > Launch Log Viewer. The Log Viewer will open, as follows:

  • Click Options > Load Log.
  • Browse to locate the spider.log file. The default location is on your desktop.
  • Double click on spider.log to view.
  • If an error message appears, hit Continue.
