The Information Security Office is looking to add students who wish to gain hands-on experience within the university's SOC. Students will work under the direction of the SOC team. These positions will involve documentation, analysis, investigation, incident response, network security monitoring, and administrative duties as assigned. Additionally, the students will perform threat hunting by utilizing various data sources which are fed into a SIEM to help better protect our university.
Students will get the opportunity to:
- Record and track IT security incidents, including but not limited to compromised accounts, email threats/phishing, and abuse reports from various sources
- Assist with provisioning and tuning of security monitoring tools
- Perform threat hunting to detect and eradicate threats
- Review and update documentation for policies, procedures, standards and guidelines
- Assist with applications/tools including but not limited to SIEM, IPS, Netflow, e-mail gateway protection, and DLP tools
- Review third party vulnerability assessment data to identify weak system configuration

Cybersecurity Intern
Student Cybersecurity Analyst
This is a student worker position inside the SOC. The role is similar to that of the Cybersecurity Intern position, as a successful candidate will work on phishing tasks, using industry tools to secure our environment, creating reports, helping with incident response, and offering input on ways to better protect the university. This position is limited and available depending on current staffing needs.
CAPSTONE
The University of Arizona's Security Operations Center (SOC) is looking to give students that are interested in Cybersecurity or other related disciplines the opportunity to work with our team on CAPSTONE related projects. If you are looking for a CAPSTONE project idea or have a proposal on how to better secure the University of Arizona cyber environment feel free to contact us. This program provides students the opportunity to work with cutting edge technologies for their capstone project, which may provide more job opportunities after graduation.
- Must be located in Tucson, Arizona or the surrounding area (Sierra Vista and Phoenix) in order to pick up and drop off laptops
- This is a remote opportunity; students must have access to reliable internet access and computing resources
- This is an UNPAID opportunity
- Students can take the course for credit. Please coordinate with your advisor to determine eligibility for the for-credit option
- Students will develop a schedule with the SOC. Students are expected to work between 15 - 25 hours per week (SOC hours are from 9-5)
- Must be a current University of Arizona semester studying Cyber Operations, Computer Science, Intelligence and Information Operations, or a related degree
