QR Code Security
July 17, 2024
QR codes are convenient ways to find content with your smartphone. They are also easy ways for bad actors to scam victims. Bogus QR codes are used to lead recipients to malicious websites.
Here are a couple of safety tips when using QR codes:
- Be suspicious of codes embedded in emails. If you see a QR code in an email, err on the side of security and
delete the email. - Think before you scan. Be wary of QR codes in public places. If you are unsure of the source of the code, ask for a paper copy of the document you are trying to access or type the URL in manually.
