Re: Interim Chief Information Security Officer and Deputy Chief Information Security Officer

Colleagues,

We have a strategic and mission critical position vacancy in the Information Security Office with Chris Schreiber’s departure.  The role of the Information Security Office is mandated by ABOR and necessary for the continued diligence and forward movement in the information security area for campus. Please be assured that a search committee of constituents from across campus will be formed as soon as possible to conduct a national search and fast-track the filling of this position.

Dealing realistically with cybersecurity as the threat continues to change and expand represents a significant challenge. To address our immediate needs, I have asked Derek Masseth, Deputy Chief Information Officer and Chief Technology Officer, to take on the additional role of the interim Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Gil Salazar has been appointed as the Interim Deputy CISO to assist Derek. Gil has worked in the UA Information Security Office (ISO) for the past five years, where he has successfully navigated numerous functional roles and has proven repeatedly his ability to thrive and grow in this environment.

Please join me in extending our gratitude and congratulations to Derek and Gil for accepting these new roles.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Regards,

Karen Williams
